About me and the blog

My name is Marcin Wichary (he/him). I’ve worked as a UX designer, typographer, front-end person, and manager at Google, Medium, and Figma. I’ve also written a book about keyboards and typing, gave talks, and published essays about design, typography, and technology.

Unsung is my blog about software craft and quality.

“You hold down Control, Shift, Alt, and click Technical Support. And boom.”

It’s Halloween Week on Unsung, where we’re sharing scary, spooky, and creepy stories.

Imagine this: It’s 8pm on a rainy Sunday night in the ’90s, and you’re bored, so you boot up the family computer looking for something to do.

But you’ve already played Solitaire a bunch, and you still don’t really get how Minesweeper works. You’ve had a laugh in paint, making abstract art. So now what?

Keep in mind, you’re not allowed to go onto the internet because firstly, someone in the house is already on phone call and secondly you’ve already been warned about running up the phone bill, but then you remember something a legend that had been circling around the net about a secret portal into a demonic realm.

And the way to get there, so they say, was through Excel.

I’m just going to leave it at that. For the rest, watch the video:
